Friday, 25 April, 2008 | 14:08 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Department of Transportation has provided the chance for seven national airlines to use the routes of Adam Air.
The letter offering the additional flight routes has been sent to seven airlines including Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Metro Batavia, Lion Air, Wings Abadi, Mandala Airlines and Indonesia AirAsia.
The route permit of Adam Air was annulled by the government on April 9, 2008, as the airline was considered to be ignoring aviation safety. If there is no reform, it was decided the air operator certificate (AOC) of Adam Air would be invalidated. The Adam Air financial condition had worsened since November 2007 so that it was difficult for the company to pay insurance and lease aircraft .
The airline had 21 domestic routes and four international routes. The domestic flight frequency reached 490 times per week and international flights reached 42 times per week. Last year, Adam Air carried 5.2 million domestic passengers and 120,618 passengers abroad.
Tri Sunoko, Director of Air Transportation at the Department of Transportation said earlier that the routes that Adam Air offered had potentials because they were categorized ‘busy’ and ‘extremely busy’.
