Early February, Peak of Rain Season
Friday, 01 February, 2008 | 19:54 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Meteorology & Geophysics Agency (BMG) said that this first week of February is the peak time of the rainy season for the greater Jakarta area.
According to Head of Agro-climate Information at BMG, Soetamto, the air of the greater Jakarta area is currently dominated by rain clouds. “There will be rain with high intensity and long duration,” he said.
The rainfall increase is caused by the meeting of winds from the southwest and northwest, which extends from Lampung to East Nusa Tenggara. Heavy rain may occur from morning to night. Climate conditions in Indonesia are also affected by La Nina phenomena which causes many rain clouds to appear in the Indonesian area. The phenomena that started to grow in mid-2007 will start to weaken April 2008.
Despite the rate of rain, it is estimated that it will not be as high as last February, which cause a major flood. “Last year the rainfall rate was the highest recorded,” said Soetamto.
