TEMPO Interactive, Semarang: Around 30 students in Semarang, Central Java, who are members of the Students’ Movement of Freedom, held a demonstration today (27/2) at Semarang Fountain Circle to condemn the Prophet Mohammad caricatures being published again in several media in Denmark.
Pompy Rizal, the field coordinator, stated that the Danish government triggered the anger of Moslems throughout the world again by publishing 12 caricatures depicting Prophet Mohammad in 24 media in Denmark.
The caricature publishing was a repetition of what had been done by the Jylland-Posten newspaper on September 30, 2005.
“We condemn the publishing of the cartoons of our glorified prophet,” said Pompy, speaking in front of his friends.
Pompy said he agreed with freedom of expression that is so far framed by democratization.
However, he said that this freedom should not be used to insult symbols of religion.
Pompy said that this was not the only insult committed by Western countries.
“Many articles and media programs belittle and insult Prophet Mohammad,” he said.
