TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The police are tightening security in the border area as they are concern the Jamaah Islamiyah's leader in Singapore, Mas Selamat Kastari, will try to enter Indonesia. “We haven't found any indication of him in Indonesia, but we'll certainly be guarded,” said Gen. Sutanto, National Police (Polri) Chief, in Polri HQ, Jakarta, yesterday (3/3).
The police are still coordinating with Singapore in order to detect Kastari's whereabouts. Last Friday (29/2), two Singaporean police officers arrived in Indonesia. They asked for Interpol's help in finding Kastari.
The international police organization has issued a security warning to the entire world as Kartari escaped from the extra-security prison Whitley in Singapore, last Wednesday (27/2).
Kastari, 47, was said to be the Jamaah Islamiyah leader in Singapore and alleged to be the mastermind in hijacking the plane which crashed at Changi International Airport in 2001. Interpol, comprising 186 countries, issued an “orange” warning, along with Kastari's photo and fingerprints.
Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam, Deputy Chairman of Public Relations at police headquarters, explained that the police are tightening the security in the routes such as the public port.
Kastari, who born in Indonesia on January 23, 1961, was suspected of being involved in terror in several strategic facilities in Singapore, such as the United States Embassy and government buildings. Adj. Comm. Sujatna, Head of the Merak Port Security Executing Unit, will make stricter regulations in the port area.
