TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Fauzi Ikhsan, an economist from the Standard Chartered Bank, has said the banking sector will not be influenced by the decision of members of the House of Representatives (DPR) to reject two candidates Agus Martowardjojo and Raden Pardede, for the position of governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).
According to Fauzi, banking groups have known that these candidates would be rejected since they were nominated.
“We have noticed that majority of DPR member rejected the candidates,” said Fauzi when contacted by Tempo on Thursday (13/3).
He went on to say that the economy and the banking sector would be stable even though the candidates for BI governor had been rejected by DPR members.
“It is the institutions that run the sector, not individuals said Fauzi.
According to him, the situation in the capital market would also not be influenced by the rejection.
Fauzi said he considered there was little probability of Agus and Raden being re-nominated.
“They have been rejected, so it would be hard to be re-nominated”, he said.
Therefore, said Fauzi, the President should propose new names including names from inside BI.
