TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Governing Commission of DPR started the fit and proper test with 15 candidates for the Election Monitoring Organization yesterday. The selection will be in three days. On the first day, five candidates will take the test.
They are Achmad Herry, head of the Bekasi regional General Elections Commission (KPU); Achmad Fauzi, head of the Election Committee of South Sulawesi; Professor Aswanto,of the Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta; Bambang Eka Cahya Widodo, and S.F. Agustiani Tio, a member of the Indonesian National Students Movement.
In the selection, the commission questioned the name of Achmad Fauzi who also has another name-Ray Rangkuti.
Andi Yuliani Paris, a member of the governance commission from National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, questioned this name. “Why do you have a different name”, asked Andi in the selection test, led by head of the commission, EE Mangindaan, at the House of Representatives, yesterday. Andi also asked if there has been a report to the Monitoring Body with a disguised identity. “Suppose there is a complaint about this fake identity related to an election violation”, he said.
Ray said his original name is Achmad Fauzi. Ray Rangkuti is his nickname in South Sumatera. According to him, he used to be called by his family name there. Ray said Rangkuti is his family name. “The name Rangkuti was shortened to Ray and I was called that until I went to college in Jakarta,” he said. He convinced commission members that his entire formal identity is his real name, Achmad Fauzi.
Regarding his double identity in a report, he said he will not make trouble out of his identity. “We will see the contents of the report, whether it is true or not. If it is, this problem is more important than a fake name”, he said.
Another commission member, Lena Mariani Mukti, asked him about what the Monitoring Organization should do to solving the election voter database that is a potential for conflict.
Ray said he will always prioritize cooperation with related institution, like the General Elections Commission (KPU), the justice department, and police to overcome the problem. According to him, Monitoring Organization will only investigate and collect evidence for violations. “Punishment will be given by the KPU,” he said. The general election will be handled by the constitutional court.
