National Survey : Yudhoyono – Kalla Popularity Decreased

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The National Survey Institute (LSN) said the popularity of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla has gone down. LSN executive director, Umar S. Bakry, said that in September 2007, the notoriety of Yudhoyono-Kalla regarding political issues is 40.9 percent. “But it decreased in January to 34.6 percent,” he said in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (25/3).
The LSN survey was done in 33 provinces during January-February 2008. Total number for the survey were 2,718 respondents, with sampling error of 2.1 percent and trust level, 95 percent.
In the field of security, Umar said, Yudhoyono-Kalla’s popularity is 47.4 percent. Dissatisfied, 41.6 percent and don’t know,11 percent.
According to Umar, Yudhoyono-Kalla’s popularity in the legal field has also decreased. There are only 35.6 percent respondents who are satisfied, 49.7 percent, dissatisfied, and 14.7 percent don't know. Regarding corruption eradication, 33.8 percent said the condition is the same as the previous government, 21.7 percent said it is worse, and 31.4 percent said it is better.
For the economic issue, 24.4 percent, satisfied with Yudhoyono-Kalla’s performance, 68.7 percent dissatisfied, and 6.9 percent, don't know. Only 14.1 percent said Yudhoyono-Kalla are better than the previous government in overcoming the unemployment problem, 43 percent said it's just the same, and 35 percent said it's worse.
In poverty eradication, 30.6 percent said Yudhoyono-Kalla are worse than the previous government, 38.2 percent said it's the same and 25 percent said it is better. “The public still do not have a good result from Yudhoyono-Kalla,” he said. Umar added, this will not make the public maintain their hopes for 2009 Presidential election.
