TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono urged the United Nations to initiate global cooperation to handle the world energy, food, and financial crisis. He will immediately send letter to Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN).
“We hope the UN will take an appropriate step,” said Yudhoyono to journalists at his office.
Some underdeveloped countries and developing countries have been shocked by the high price of world oil and food. This global crisis, he said, threatens the economy of many developing countries and concerns the budget.
The president spoke to several nations and government leaders through his visit to the Middle East, Africa, and other forums. “All complain about the same thing due the rise of oil and food prices,” he said.
He expects the UN to take a proactive step, to build awareness, responsibility, and global cooperation, like what the UN did about Climate Change. “to overcome this problem.”
