The Internal Monitoring System is Not Ready
Friday, 28 March, 2008 | 14:58 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Commission to Eradicate Corruption (KPK) said the internal monitoring apparatus at departments and government institutions are not ready to reform their bureaucracies.

“It seems they are not ready and are surprised when both ministry and institutional regulations are not ready,” said KPK deputy for division, Haryono Umar.

KPK suggests to immediately conclude the discussion on the government regulation drafting on the Monitoring System. KPK plans to distribute a report to detect a corruption indication on the environment of departments. The internal monitoring apparatus has been saying that their departments are free from corruption. “While there are many of cases reported to the KPK,” said Haryono.

Previously, head of KPK, Antasari Azhar, said the monitoring internally has been decided because the government management system is not yet effective. Therefore, to prevent corruption, monitoring by internal staff will be increased. This is to avoid a sense of stress between the monitoring apparatus and the department's leaders.

“KPK still needs more time to study the situation. KPK is intended for the internal monitoring system to monitor the entire process in the department,” said Antasari.
