TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government is being pressured to audit the financial performance of Indonesian airlines as soon as possible.
These audits are aimed at confirming that sufficient allocation has been made in their budgets for flight security aspects.
Eko Roesni Putro, Head of the Concern for Indonesian Air Transportation (PAUKI) NGO, said that the audits were needed for government in order to be able to anticipate possible airline financial crises.
Therefore, said Eko, the government must guarantee that the audit results are confidential so that they are not leaked to members of the general public or other airlines.
“If there are leaks, then there must be something wrong with the Transportation Department,“ he said.
According Bambang Ervan, Head of the Public Communications Center at the Transportation Department, the auditing of the financial performance of airlines has actually been planned.
The audits will be carried out by independent public accountants.
However, Tengku Burhanudin, General Secretary of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA), rejected the government’s recommendation of carrying out financial audits.
