Threat of Carbon Emission Sales Agreement with Singapore Being Canceled
Monday, 31 March, 2008 | 16:59 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: There is a threat that the agreement for the sale of carbon emissions with several Singaporean companies in the chocolate farming in West Papua will be canceled.

This statement was made by Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie on Saturday (30/3) in Jakarta.

“I have requested that the West Papua governor cancel the agreement,” said, in his welcoming speech at a Chamber of Commerce and Industry coordinating meeting for food and agribusiness issues.

He said the profit sharing with Singaporean companies was not fair with too much profit for Singapore.

According to the minister, the agreement states 61 percent will be for Singapore, 25 percent for the provincial government of West Papua, and only 14 percent for members of the local community.

“Because the profit scheme is obviously not fair, it's better to cancel it,” said Aburizal
