Central Java Set Up Regional Regulation for Farming
Tuesday, 08 April, 2008 | 15:24 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Semarang: Central Java is preparing regional regulations for enduring farming. “With this regulation, the function cannot be changed,” said head of Mass Guidance for Food in Central Java, Gayatri Indah Cahyani to Tempo today.
This decision is to keep the farms that have been reduced every year from experiencing difficulties. The regulation should be completed by the end of this year.
According to the Agriculture Department in Central Java, farms have been reduced 2,000 – 2,500 hectares and changed into housing or industrial areas. To date, Central Java still has 995,468 hectares for wet farms and 764,246 hectares for dry farms.
“We are concerned about food production,” said Gayatri. Last year, the Central Java governor instructed mayors and regents to prepare farms.
