Fuel Subsidy Should be Reduced Says DPR

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Committee deputy for the House's budget, Suharso Monorfa, Deputy Chairman of the Budget Committee at the House of Representatives (DPR), has asked the government to immediately create a scenario to reduce energy subsidies gradually.

“The government should have a grand strategy to reduce the subsidies and allocate these to other more productive sectors,” said Suharso.

Suharso also asked the government to not allocate more energy subsidy that would exceed the revised 2008 state budget.

“This wouldn't be productive,” said Suharso.

Suharso said that allocating more subsidies for energy would make people in the virtual market question the government's policies.
