Religious Affairs Minister Criticizes Burning of Ahmadiyah Mosques
Tuesday, 29 April, 2008 | 16:22 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni has criticized the burning of the Ahmadiyah mosques in Bogor and Sukabumi, West Java.

“This is violence. We cannot do that,” he said at the launching the program launching on sustainable capacity empowerment for the health of Islamic elementary school students, at the Vice President's office today.

Maftuh said that sane people would not do such a thing.

“We will leave it up to security personnel to handle this case,” he said.

The government suggests that people be patient and wait for a solution to the Ahmadiyah situation, including the issuance of a joint decree banning this sect.

“We have not yet had a meeting, I just came back from abroad,” said Maftuh.
