Komnas HAM Urged to Continue Investigation into Talangsari Case

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Several lawyers and human rights activists came to the office of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) today (29/4) to state their support for Komnas HAM to continue the investigation into heavy human rights violations including the Talangsari case.
They asked the commission to subpoena former officials of the Indonesian military who have refused to be investigated.
Former head of the Indonesian legal aid association, Hendardi, said that the commission had called military and police officials to give more information regarding the East Timur, Trisakti, Semanggi I and II human rights violation cases.
“They came when they were still active as military, I don't understand why they cannot come now after retiring,” said Hendardi at a press conference at the commission's office in Jakarta.
Hendardi was accompanied by the lawyers of Petrus Selestinus and Sugeng Teguh Santoso.
They were welcomed by commission member, Yoseph Adi Prasetyo.
On Thursday (24/4) last week, 500 former military officials criticized the commission's actions in investigating human rights violations, saying these were not balanced.
Hendardi said he was surprised that former military and police officials refused to meet the commission for the pro justice investigation over the Talangsari case.
