TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: With the government's planning to increase fuel prices, the sentence for hoarders of fuel will be three-year’s imprisonment.
“It is in a regulation No. 22/2001 section 53 about oil and gas,” said police public relations Inspector General Abubakar Nataprawira, at Indonesian police headquarters today.
Police will investigate suspicious places. Last time, the police were able to uncover hoarding in West and East Java.
“Anyone caught, will be processed in court,” he said.
Abubakar said that head of the Indonesian police, General Sutanto, has instructed the region to be prepared with the possible attitude against the fuel price increases. Police will detect the public unrest and stop demonstrations by particular groups.
“We will intensify our patrol in sites where the demonstrations will likely take place,” said Abubakar.
Abubakar suggested to not be involved with any violence. “Please follow the procedures when planning a demonstration,” he said.
