Vice President Asks Public to Accept Fuel Price Increases
Tuesday, 13 May, 2008 | 16:18 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Head of central council administration of Muhammadiyah students association (DPP IMM) Amiruddin has quoted Vice President Jusuf Kalla as asking all elements of the general public to respectfully accept the government's decision to increase the fuel prices.

“Only cutting debts and limiting exports are not enough to save the state budget,” said Amiruddin after meeting Kalla today (13/5).

Amiruddin added that Kalla also mentioned the reason for increasing fuel prices was only because of high world crude oil prices.

“The Vice President said that it was a difficult decision,” said Amiruddin.

“However, government will still pay attention to people’s welfare through the distribution of direct cash assistance.”

However, the Muhammadiyah students association still opposes the government's plan of increasing fuel prices.

“We disagree with it as it will create more burdens for people,” said Amiruddin.
