Enterovirus in Indonesia Cannot Cause Death
Wednesday, 14 May, 2008 | 15:06 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Diseases caused by Enterovirus in Indonesia are not as dangerous as they are in China.

Sukman Tulus Putra, Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), said that Enterovirus is divided into several varieties.

“The one in Indonesia cannot cause death,” said Sukman after a press conference at the Stovia Building, Museum of National Awakening.

Sukman did not mention precisely when the virus first existed in Indonesia.

According to Sukman, some of clinical symptoms after being infected by Enterovirus are fever and diarrhea.

Children are particularly susceptible to this virus.

Twenty children died in China some time ago from Enterovirus.

Not long after that, Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital in Jakarta had two patients infected with Enterovirus but of a different variety.

Sukman suggested mothers not to be worried about it as long as they maintained a healthy attitude and clean environment.
