Wednesday, 14 May, 2008 | 15:53 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government's plan to sell PT Krakatau Steel to strategic partners has been rejected by national figure Amien Rais.
He thinks that the selling of Krakatau and other state enterprises will create negative impact for Indonesia.
“We will have nothing in the end,” said Amien today (14/5).
He said he regretted the government has prepared 44 healthy and profitable state enterprises to be sold.
According to Amien, the governance of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is too submissive to the concept of privatization, deregulation, friendly market economic, and the 10 principles of the Washington consensus.
“Therefore, it does not feel wrong to sell the state enterprises,” he said.
The government, through the State Ministry for State Owned Enterprises continues its effort to sell Krakatau to a strategic partner.
Four international steel companies are already interested, including: ArcelorMittal, Bluescope Steel Limited International, Tata Steel Limited and Essar Steel Limited.
This effort is facilitated by Industry Minister Fahmi Idris and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), M. Lutfi.
